Hello Nexus Mods community,

I've recently started playing Fallout 4 again and I am working on a brand new modlist to further enhance my gameplay experience. I've downgraded my game prior new-gen update, so many popular mods should work. Another great thing is that many (but not all) of these mods should also work for Fallout London.

I really enjoy using Sim Settlements 2 mod with interior plots inside of structures. I have been finding it tricky to place the SS2 interior plots inside structures, though.

I'd love to hear any mod suggestions from the community!

Types of mods I mostly look for include:

  • Bug fixes & performance
  • Textures & models

Uneducated Shooter, if only for actually reducing the player collision when crouching, allowing you to go under some things you otherwise can't. I'll probably think of more, particularly little F4SE tweaks, but this sprang to mind instantly.

Access Hatch plus Doors and Tunnels - by Niston.  -  Allows you to access the roof from inside the building - with no load screen (among other things).

Basement Living.    Allows you to have a separate location within the settlement as a "safe house" or a "storage facility" or whatever you want it for.

-----

If you intend on building a greenhouse, whichever mod you use to build it stop by Glass Roofs Stop Rain and Snow and get the appropriate patch.

If you are using MCM you really should have the whole slam - and none of them have a plugin.

MCM

MCM Settings Manager (allows you to save settings and export/import them).   Start a new game, import settings - done.

MCM Categorizer (when you MCM menu goes past one screen - this is your solution.   Create categories and put those menus in there to get the menu back under control).

MCM Booster (supposedly speeds up the MCM menu - though in my experience I never found it slow enough to be sped up).

Like SKK, LarannKiar has so many good mods that fix things, there is no point in trying to name them, same for Glitchfinder and SoleVaultBoy. Just look through all their stuff sorted by date of last update. Same for the "Baka" mods; I like the full screen pip-boy and auto-hacking, but look at all of them, it's worth it. Though now I feel bad because surely there's more I could name but that just don't spring to mind.

I am shocked that Game Configuration Menu (GCM) and Survival Options haven't been mentioned yet! Add in Survival Unlocker to get console and fast-travel (I generally play without using FT, but it's soooo useful to have the option when you need to test/check something). Clicklight highlights things you clicked in the console.

Interior NavCut Fix is another little F4SE fix

Both "Inventories Exposed" mods are a wonderful baseline in case you want to tweak leveled lists yourself. If you like idle mats, get Funtime for Settlers and make a proper dance club 😄

When it comes to content mods it's hard to recommend anything else unless one understands what you are looking for - specifically.

-----

I'll use a simple example.

When it comes to settlements (and I don't do the Settlement meta-game much - mostly make safe houses) I absolutely HAVE to have a Solar Panel mod.

That doesn't fit everyone's description of "lore friendly" or "acceptable" for the kind of builds they intend to make.

It fits mine though - and that is all that really matters.

-----

I'd rather have a silent power generating source I can make conform to existing otherwise unused space (say the sides of roofs) than making the fossil fuel generators quiet - but still have to deal with the immersion destroying scenario of playing fossil fuel using generators all over the place with literally no fossil fuel requirement for the rest of the game.  😄

-Atomic World.

it adds so much to the fallout 4 world.

about 100 locations, neutral, empty, occupied, hostile or friendly.

ranging in size from a small hut with one person to cities ( yes plural) in the glowing sea with some buildings open and a subway system and if you find them, some caverns under the glowing sea to explore.

If I could have only one single mod among my 350 actives  it would be this one.

-Others of comparable importance are CBBE (I need good figures on my women!), and
- transfer settlement blueprints

-Camouflage Power Armor Paintjobs and Camouflage Armor Paintjobs. After spending a quarter century in the military, they simply needed for my immersion, they make the armors of the wasteland look like the brutal tools of war that they are. And the Flecktarn especially looks so good and is delivered with great resolution.

-water no rads (it's an off nexus mod), I need for immersion. that the water is radioactive in this game is just such an absurd immersion breaking element I need to turn it off. and that's the only one I found to actually work. There are a couple on nexus that don't work.

-SKK Settlement attack system. The only file that is my experience has been able to tame the games excessive attacks on settlements. I had other popular ones I tried but they would usually stop working mid game somehow. here I simply set attacks interval to every 8 hours ( its maximum) and its no longer a hassle.

- Some good clothes for my female settlers, Either Skyrim conversions, or vtaw clothes or the lazman555 series. IN combination with CBBE they make the wasteland worth living.

- A working AAF set-up for realism. Nothing crazy or perverted just meat and potatoes basic AAF setup for when your settler girls feel the need to reward you.

- Some mods to improve settler dialogues. Settler and Companion Dialogue Overhaul being the best example.

- MS Clone Settler Outfit. its a bit buggy but so powerful and useful to equip my NPCs quickly with good yet immersive gear I put up with the bugs . main bug is on leaving the cell they will unequip the armor you just gave them, you have to re-enter and go into thier inventory via a hotbutton this mod provides and requip all.Only then it "takes".

- better Settlers , gets your settlers that are spawned in normal game spawn at levels 40 or 50. this way my guards wont fold like  a paper bag.

-Settler builder. I use this especially to get female settlers (along with commonwealth captives where u rescue pretty girls from raiders or supermutants, but this has an AAF requirement which many will not have)

- Cowardly settlers. its off nexus mod. makes it so only your guards run towards combat but your traders, doctors, farmgirls etc run to a central location in the settlement that you designate via a dropped "safe zone" mat. They will defend there if the bad guys break through your defenses but otherwise huddle there and wait for your warriors to fight off the threat. Realistic and immersive I would say.

-Subway Runner revival - Optimized expanded. This adds a lot of content. There is a competing subway runner revival, which adds too many extra tough enemies IMHO though. so careful check which of the two almost identically named ones you want.

-Homemaker expanded settlements. This adds so many objects to your settlement build menu. many of them more immersive than the vanilla build menu. I never play without it.

- The entire New Lands series from Zorkaz: These are just works of art. For those who enjoy exploration, with a smidgen of mystery and beautiful enchanting ;landscape and music in those landscapes these are just dynamite.

Examples are: The Wilderness, The marshlands, The Farmlands. Absolute master pieces and every playthrough has those enabled

-Mod Control menu: Is essential to tweak the settings and toggles of many mods.

- I was not going to list any weapons mods since IMHO they are not all that important.

After all the game already has servicable weapons and plenty of them.
Even so, I will mention one anyway, all my playthroughs from now on add Police Carbine - Armalite AR-180 from Degenerate Dak. This is my current favorite (Neehers Select Assualt Rifle which looks like a CAR15 thats been falloutisized was my former favorite and I also recommend it).
What I like about the AR180 is its real world lore, makes it a perfect tactical rifle in a post Apoc for immersion. And it looks like its made on cruder machinery rather than a Major Nation States first world military industrial complex rifle .
This makes it very grounded for Fallout 4 IMHO.

It's hard to dertermine what is a core mod, because every player has a different focus. When it comes to settlement building there would be the choice between realismn or, if you are not interested in nailing post war junk together, mods that bring pristine objects. So I, personally, would say that there are only a handful real core mods. Here on Nexus you have categories to go through. Always being aware about next-gen or pre next-gen. In addition there are graphics post processing tools like ENB and Reshade (I recommend to not use a newer one than 6.2....) which I think of as essential. Everything is a matter of taste, but some of the most important "core" mods for me are (pre next-gen):

CBBE + Bodyslide and Outfit Studio (I know that there are other body replacers, but I will stay with CBBE)

Photo Mode

Screen Archer Menu

Scrap Everything

Place Everywhere

Transfer Settlements and/ or Clipboard Resurrection

Looksmenu

Looksmenu Composing Compendium

Better Console

HUD Plus Plus

Faster Workshop

No mods, but important in my eyes:

FO4Edit or XEdit

The Creation Kit
